It‘s been a busy few festive months for Peel Aquatic Club culminating in the 2022 Country Championships taking place at HBF Stadium in Perth over 3 days from 7 January.
The Club performed at a high level throughout the meet bringing home a total of 82 medals (36 Gold, 26 Silver and 20 Bronze) as well as the top point scoring club of the 2022 Country Championships.
The Meet kicked off with the relays and saw a night of brilliant swims, fierce competition, and great team spirit resulting in a bunch of medals. Peel Aquatic Men’s 4x50m Free and Medley Relay Teams (Oliver Brehaut, Finlay Larmour, Cody Zambon and Sean Alcorn) swum WA Country records (unofficial) in their races.
4 of Peel’s Senior Swimmers, Finlay Hayes, Ben Spagnolo, Lexcen King and Sean Alcorn, together achieved an Australian National qualifying time in the 14-15 year old 4x50 Medley Relay!
It was another record breaking meet for Alcorn who swam an WA Country Record in the Boys 14 year old 50m Freestyle and a WA State Residential Record in the Boys 14 year old 50m Butterfly. Alcorn went on to swim WA Country Records in the Boys 14 and 15 year 100 Fly. (All records are unofficial until validated by Swimming WA).
During the meet Cody Zambon, Sean Alcorn and Summer Houston represented the South West Region in the Open Relays, winning Gold with their teams.
“WA Country Championships was a very successful meet for the Club with many amazing personal bests swum, records broken and medals a plenty.” said Head Coach Pat Stellino.
“I had wanted us to come away with Gold in all 12 relay events, but it’s not a bad result winning 10 out of the 12 relays and Silver in the other two! I’m so proud of the team and how well they're trained and competed.”
The Club is currently training for 2022 Country Pennants due to take place in Carnarvon in March and are aiming to retain the A Grade Pennant.
