Mandurah residents and Peel Aquatic swimmers, Fin Larmour, Calia Vlastuin and Sean Alcorn have been named as three of the five finalists for the 2021 Mandurah Sports Awards along with their Mandurah based swimming club, Peel Aquatic.
The three swimmers have each had tremendous success over the past year. All received State medals in their key events, have broken numerous State and Country records and qualified for Australian National Swimming Championships which was due to be held on the Gold Coast. Their travel plans, however, were disrupted at the last minute by Covid meaning they were unable to travel to Queensland to compete at the event. Instead a virtual meet in Perth was quickly organised by Swimming WA with Fin and Sean making finals as well as Fin and Calia both qualifying for Olympic Trials in Adelaide.
Peel Aquatic's new President, Adam Woodage said "We are extremely proud of our swimmers and their achievements this year. They have all shown resilience and a determination to succeed despite last minute changes disrupting their plans."
Peel Aquatic's success does not stop there. The Club has gone from strength to strength over the past 18 months during Covid with 17 swimmers qualifying for National Championships, the largest contingent they have ever had.
The Club's Head Coach, Pat Stellino said "It's fantastic to see the team's hard work paying off. We've had more swimmers than ever make State and National qualifying times, State Teams and Olympic Trials. We have some big goals for next year and the team are looking forward to Nationals in Adelaide in April 2022."
The 2021 Mandurah Sports Awards will take place at Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club on Wednesday 24 November 2021. Tickets can be purchased from City of Mandurah Recreation on ticketebo.
